Merid’s Musings: What’s an Inch to You? (video)

There’s lots to learn when you’re in India. As you’d expect your visit will include newfound appreciation of the country’s history, people, spiritual beliefs, and whatever else you discover for yourself.  Shocking as it may seem, the one thing that blew my mind the most thus far is what people here are able to do with spaces.  It’s like the entire country has a different (better) understanding of geometry than we do.  Driving in India warps your sense of the space surrounding you.  Right away you learn that an inch here does a whole lot more than you could ever imagine.  What seems to me a negligible few inches around our rickshaw is often used to make life-determining decisions on the open road, or serve as the most important ingredient of the chaos in the cities.  But somehow it works.  Indians make it work. No space is wasted.  After several days on the road we too have mastered the art of weaving through traffic within spaces that up to now would’ve been unimaginable.
